A mostly flat land, Botswana is home to animals, birds and trees you will be flabbergasted at. If you plan to visit this heavenly country, there are lots and lots of places you can see.
Central Kalahari Game Reserve
World’s second largest wildlife reserve, the Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR) is the most remotely located reserve in Southern Africa. Take a 4×4 vehicle and venture into this wonderland to explore its vast grasslands where wildebeest, giraffe, hartebeest and eland abound. Pierce through waist-high grasses and the thickets of silver terminalia sandveldt, Kalahari appleleaf and Kalahari sand acacias. The northern Deception Valley is a must-visit mainly because of the abundance of herbivores which eventually attract their predators. It is near the eastern Matswere Gate and has a number of campsites. The other two entrances at Xade and Tsau too have public campsites. Don’t forget Passage Valley, Piper’s Pan and the north of Deception Valley.
Northern Tuli Game Reserve
If you want to witness a mix of Nature’s splendor and historical and cultural attractions, don’t miss the Northern Tuli Game Reserve. The iconic Limpopo, Motioutse and Shashe rivers traverse this superb jungle while forming natural boundaries with the neighboring Zimbabwe and South Africa. A traveler who dreams of an intense safari will be truly delighted with NTGR, because it allows you to hike, bike, horse-ride and even hot-air balloon ride! You also get a chance to accompany wildlife researchers in Mashatu Game Reserve and get a truly enchanting insight of the animal behavior. Another exciting site is Nitani, where there is a hyena research project. If you are interested in history, you get archeological sites like Zhizo, Mapungubwe and Leopard’s Kopje, where you can witness pottery and other belongings of the Iron Age man. A quaint village where you can chat with the locals, Motlhabaneng is another must-visit. And also don’t miss Solomon’s Wall, a wonderful natural phenomenon, located at Tuli Block. This is a 30-meter high basalt dyke, once forming a natural dam aside River Motloutse.
