We have discussed about some common hidden traveling costs you might overlook when going to some great journey. Every dollar counts, especially if you are about to be somewhere abroad for a longer period. Now, we will take a look at some of hidden traveling costs we haven’t mentioned before.

  • ATM fees are something many travelers forget. You cannot travel without your money, but you still cannot take all the necessary money for your big trip. ATM machines commonly charge a fee if you use them in addition to standard bank fees. Sometimes you will have to pay even $10 just to get your money. So, before going to a journey, find the bank that will not charge ATM fees or find those that will charge you the lowest fee.
  • If you are a backpacker, you probably buy just few souvenirs, because you do not have enough free space for them. However, you will surely buy something as a souvenir during your trip. So, how to minimize these souvenir costs? In second and third world countries, bargain to lower the price, especially for those items that do not have listed prices on them. Also, skip the city center and try to find souvenirs in suburban area.
  • Hotel pricing can surprise you with some unexpected costs. Of course, it is not similar to airline tickets, but booking fee might be  higher than you see on the websites. Find a nice vacation rentals blog and check out local occupancy taxes etc. Parking fee, using  air conditioner, Internet and watching TV can also add up to 20% to the total costs of your accommodation.
  • Preparation costs are something many people forget to include in their traveling budget. Sometimes, you can spend a fortune if you want to go skiing, camping etc. As a backpacker, you should always bring higher quality clothes that are easy to dry and not heavy to take them in your backpack.
