Snorkeling is an activity powerful enough to introduce you to one of the most wonderful entities of the nature – the underwater marine world! What’s more, it even imparts some prominent health benefits like increased muscle strength and elimination of stress.
The most important thing about snorkeling is to relax and try not to overanalyze. Here are some tips that will make your first and every snorkeling trip thereafter the most fun.
1. Proper Wearing of Mask
Perhaps the most important thing while snorkeling is to wear a mask that will fit your face properly. Read the full face snorkel mask reviews to find the right mask for you. Hold the mask on to your face and breathe in through your nose. If the mask stays in place without having to hold it and seals perfectly, you are ready to go.
If air leaks in the mask, water also will leak in, so, it’s important to check if the mask fits properly. Tie hair properly and don’t let it come in the way of the mask.
It’s perfect if the strap fits properly at the broadest area of your head i.e. towards top back. If you wear it at the base of your head, water may leak in.
2. Proper Fins

Your fins should fit in snugly but should not be too tight. Make sure your toes are not getting hurt or curled even a bit after wearing them because if they do, you may get cramps. Remember that it’s better if your fins are a bit bigger than too small. Once both your feet are wet, they will slip on easily.
3. Defog
It’s also important to learn how to defog. If you can’t see anything, all the efforts won’t make any sense. Some defogging materials are crushed leaves, gel products or even a small drop of baby shampoo rinsed with sea water.
4. Practice Breathing
Practice through your snorkel keeping your head outside the water before you dip in. Wear your mask and breathe through the tube. Don’t bite the tube. Rest your teeth otherwise your jaw will get sore quickly. Practice some breathing exercises to make yourself comfortable.
Once you feel comfortable, practice the classic floating face under the water. Now you’ll see numerous cool things underwater that will help you focus.
5. Know Your Limits
Knowing your limits is perhaps one of the most important things while snorkeling. It’s an essential skill but is often overlooked. There is no reason to push yourself beyond limits while snorkeling. As you’ll be more experienced they will change and grow.
Once you get thorough with all these things, you will get a lot of enjoyment every time you snorkel. Learn them and enjoy snorkeling.
