colorado dude ranch holidaysDude ranch vacation is amazing. You can enjoy a lot of horseback riding, on open lawns, feel like a cowboy, enjoy the relaxing spa in a luxury dude ranch and much more. However, if you want to make the most of your holiday, you should pack some essential things; otherwise, your dream holidays can turn into a nightmare. Here are some tips.

1. Right Footwear

Avoid the temptation of wearing fashionable high heels. Instead choose low-heeled or cowboy boots for your ranch vacation. If you take cowboy boots with you, remember that they can become scruffy at a functional ranch vacation or in rainy season. So, if you don’t want them to accumulate dirt, don’t take them with you. Will you do backcountry riding? (Of course, you will do that!) Keep in mind that regular riding boots with no tread are not suitable for walking on mountains and grasslands. So, choose tramping boots with a small heel or comfortable footwear suited to walking on an uneven terrain. In short, along with riding footwear, you shouldn’t forget to carry non-riding footwear too. Sneakers as well as a pair of flip-flops come in handy always. Also carry some ‘dress’ shoes as you can also enjoy formal dining on the ranch.

2. Riding Clothes

Jeans will be your best friend on your ranch vacation. Those with no inside leg-seam provide the best comfort. For new riders or those not accustomed to long hours in saddle, padded underwear, such as those designed for cycling, is a smart choice. For hot weather, choose vest tops and long-sleeve light shirts for protection from the sun. If the weather would be cool or rainy, make sure to carry ample layers, a scarf, long-sleeved tops and a warm coat. Check beforehand if the ranch supplies rain slickers.

3. Hat

A hard hat is recommended by most ranches and some provide them too; but if you have one, then carry it to ensure a proper fit. Or else a baseball cap or brimmed hat can save your head from the sun’s heat. If you want to wear a cowboy hat, be sure that it fits. It’s not a good idea that every time you move in a lope, your hat flies off your head and your fellow guests have to stop while you retrieve your hat from bushes!

4. Gloves

Gloves are essential especially if you will spend a lot of time riding, particularly on cattle drives. Choose a pair of strong leather or leather-reinforced material.
